Great question! A Devour San Sebastian food tour is a fun, fascinating and (most importantly!) delicious introduction to the majestic city of San Sebastian. Our food tours visit some of the city’s best traditional eateries, including tapas bars, local markets, taverns and shops, and hidden gems that few even know exist! You’ll taste some of San Sebastian's best local food, and gain fascinating insight into its age-old traditions. We keep our groups small and every tour is led by an English-speaking guide who knows San Sebastian like the back of their hand, and loves it to bits.
You’ll visit 6 unique pintxos tasting locations, trying a delicious assortment of homemade pintxos including some of Spain’s best acorn-fed Iberian ham, San Sebastian's most famous local anchovies, fresh seafood, and perfectly cooked meats. You’ll try at least 12 bites, enough for a (large) dinner. And of course, at each pintxos bar you’ll pair your food with a delicious drink (Spanish wine, local cider or beer). All tastes are subject to change based on seasonality and our vendors’ holiday schedules, but we guarantee they’ll always be delicious! You’ll be led by a knowledgeable and fun English-speaking guide and San Sebastian expert. Between pintxos bars they will lead you through winding streets and grand squares, giving you a fun, interesting historic walking tour of the old city. Plus, when you book you’ll receive a link to our Devouring San Sebastian mini-guide, packed with recommendations so you’ll eat well before and after your tour! Our guests love this tour because it’s both a tapas tour and a walking tour – the perfect 2-in-1 to get your head (and your belly) around San Sebastian!
The tour lasts approximately 3 hours (give or take 15 minutes). The tour covers approximately 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) and there is very limited seating (not guaranteed, due to the nature and size of the bars visited). Please note that it is traditional and authentic in San Sebastian pintxos bars to stand and eat at the bar, and most of the taverns we visit do not have tables or seating.
Don’t worry, you won’t be part of a massive hoard following a guide with a flag or a flamenco fan! We keep our groups small and intimate, so the tour can squeeze into small, hidden places and you get personal time with your guide. The maximum number of guests on this tour is usually 8 people and all of our tours are guaranteed to operate, even with just 1 person.
We want as many people to be able to enjoy our tours as possible. Scroll up the page a little to see what dietary restrictions this tour is adaptable for.
This tour is a great fit for curious teens who would enjoy learning about San Sebastian's pintxo culture and tasting local food. We offer teen pricing and they will be served non-alcoholic drinks throughout the tour. Please do keep in mind that this tour is a quick paced and authentic evening experience. If you're a family with younger kids who need a slower pace, please check out the daytime version of our Ultimate San Sebastian Pintxos & Wine Tour.
The tour does not include transport to the meeting place, or from the ending point (ask your guide for guidance at the end of the tour if you’re not sure where you are). Also, please feel free to tip your guide if you think they did a great job! The standard gratuity in the tour industry is 10-15%.
Also, keep in mind that tours take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately and bring an umbrella if it looks like rain. Also, we recommend you wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking a few kilometres. Finally, while we do serve water on the tour at some stops, we recommend you bring a bottle of water.
Of course! We regularly offer private tours to families, groups of friends and corporate groups. Email us your group size, the date you'd like the tour and anything else you'd like us to keep in mind, and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.
